Quilt Partner for 2012

This year the LHQG has decided to partner with several organizations... of course, our quilting making will be the cornerstone of this partnership. Here is a break down of how the group wanted to distribute our quilts... # 1 we'll partner with the Ga Baptist Children's Home and Family Ministry (GBCHFM) TLC-2 maternity cottage on the Palmetto Campus #2. We'll make one ranch, horse or farm theme quilt for the Good Shepherd therapeutic ranch which is also under the umbrella of the GBCHFM. This quilt will be used as an incentive that the boys can earn. #3. The K.I.T. ministry has asked us to consider continuing our periodic gifts to the church members they serve. #4. Our present collection of quilts will be divided amongst several of our choices... **The appropriate baby quilts will go to TLC-2 as part of our commitment to the program, minimum of 5 baby quilts and 5 nap quilts for the mothers. **The appropriate size and/theme quilts will go to the Developmental Disabilities Ministry for them to distribute to selected residents. **If there are quilts remaining they will go to The Center for Family Resources to become part of the "Welcome Kit" for new apartment residents. _______________ We have our marching orders for the year. This partnership will be a blessing to the girls we serve plus our group, we have a cause, a purpose. This will be a fun productive year. First 2011 Quilt Till You Wilt

The first Quilt Till You Wilt (QTYW) was a huge success. Of course, all quilters run on food but the interesting thing about this meeting was all the snack food was healthy... what happened to us over the holidays?

The QTYW began with making the Dollar General lotion for the church's "In Touch" ministry which is a one on one continuing ministry with the shut-ins of the congregation. Batches of the lotion were divided into small containers and would be delivered to the members by their contact person.

Then everyone began work on their individual projects whether it be charity quilts or personal projects... a lot of progress was made.

In the afternoon a car load of members went on a short shop hop... they first visited KiwiQuilts located on the county line between Cobb and Paulding counties. A nice shop that was really hopping on a Saturday because another church quilting group was also out sampling the quilt shops. At Kiwi we all seemed to buy something from the clearance table. The next stop was StitchnQuilt in Mableton. They also shopped the clearance corner here. One of our faithful members was in the shop's class, so of course, we had to barge in and say hi.... After a quick meal the four were back at church for more sewing...

A great time was had by all...

A Quilters Christmas

The Loving Hands Quilt Group party was a smashing success. Again husbands or friends were invited and encouraged to attend. A few "get to know you" activities broke the ice for the new comers. As always the food was a big hit, and like the Thanksgiving gathering we are requested to submit our recipes. Gifts were exchanged amongst the quilters while the non-quilters gathered for games and TV in the basement entertainment area. It was a wonderful evening...

Thanksgiving Celebration with friends

There is one thing you can say about quilters and especially quilters that are church going Christians... food is near the center of the event... fun, food and fellowship was the highlight of the Thanksgiving celebration... plus a birthday shared.

Busy Meeting Oct 26

The productivity at the October 26th meeting was contagious... we worked lived crazed whirl winds... some folks finishing up personal projects in anticipation of Christmas and others carry on the charity projects... Plus we had show & tell, it is obvious that some are busy even away from the meetings...

Stocking work shop

Was October 16th a work shop or sweat shop???? We weren't sure but it was a fun and rewarding day. We got enough Christmas stockings done so that the youth of the church could use them for their community outreach event.... We even got a glimpse of the airshow from the near by Air Force Base...

Stocking QTYW day Oct 16

Just a reminder that the group is having a QTYW (Quilt Till You Wilt) tomorrow Oct 16th, starting at 9:00AM. We'll be making Christmas stockings for the church's youth outreach program. We need folks to do all sorts of jobs... iron, cut, sew on buttons and be general "handymen" for the event. Come as early as you can and stay as long as possible.

We might take a break to watch some of the air show from the parking lot... (they are practicing right now... its rather loud...).

Remember...
Sewing supplies if you'll be sewing (machine in good working order), we do have a couple spares...

Bring a snack to share

and money for lunch (we might visit the UPWARD concession stand)

Oct 12 mtg

As you can tell from the photos we were all busy with our projects this meeting. Peggy took the opportunity to learn the Disappearing 9 Patch (D9P) block technique. Terri was assembling the top to a baby quilt that is made from only half square triangles. I think the fabrics came straight from the stash closet, you go Terri. Joanne was doing a picture smocking technique to the top of young girl's dress. Patti got the borders around a holiday panel... Yes, Mari-Lynn stayed till the Leadership meeting called her attentions away, and I was there as just teacher for the folks that wanted to catch up on the D9P block...

QTYW a big success

The five attendees made splendid progress on their various quilting and sewing projects during the August Quilt To You Wilt event held at Joanne's house. Our visitor Teresa worked on some sewing projects for her grand children, while Joanne worked at finishing her Turning 20 charity quilt. Patti assembled a batik quilt top. Terri applied several rows to her pineapple quilt blocks. Kay finished up a variety of small projects. Everyone believed the 24 hours devoted to sewing was a productive experience.

As you can tell from the photographs the productivity was huge...

Fabric Challenge 2010

This year with fabric challenge I tried to be nearer than in years past. As I approach my more golden years, or maybe in my case "more silver" years I've tried become more thoughtful and understanding... I've decided that some times I need to let the members "do their own thing" ... be productive, yet giving...

So here is this years fabric challenge...

LOVING HANDS QUILT GROUP

2010-2011

***THE GREAT FABRIC CHALLENGE***

This is your new fabric challenge…

1. From the fabric collection you are to choose at least two grocery bags of fabric.

2. Your picture will be taken with your fabric selection.

3. From this fabric you are to make as many items as you can or like; these can be purses, totes, clothing, household items, gifts, pillowcases, quilts or doll clothes.

4. In the construction of these items at least half of the fabric used per item must come from the donated fabric. (you have the option of shopping in the fabric closet whenever you need to).

5. At least one of these items must be donated to some charity or worthy non-profit cause…

6. The challenge ends in June of 2011, keep a photo record of your entries for prize verification.

Don't forget the LOONs

Seems like years ago we did the Loon Fabric challenge...

This block of mine keeps resurfacing in the sewing room, figured I best capture it on the blog before it disappears again... plus this gives me the opportunity to remind you to finish yours up.
After the Moose and Goose quilt tops are done this next meeting (May 25th) we'll begin thinking of when to schedule the assembling of the LOON BLOCKS...

Criss Cross Coasters

We were so busy at the cabin during the shop hop weekend that we never got around to the criss cross coasters.
We worked on them the first meeting back ... I think lots of folks will be getting coaster sets for gifts this year. It was a fun meeting....

Shop Hop Creative weekend

May 5 to 9, 2010

This year 6 members of the group had the opportunity to attend the third annual LHQG SHOP HOP CREATIVE WEEKEND. Some folks would have called it a "retreat' but we didn't retreat from anything... we traveled, we drove, we shopped, we hopped, we sewed and we knitted. Oh, and we ate. And we did sleep. It was a most productive weekend. It was another successful weekend; six women in a cabin designed to sleep 4 with one bathroom... and we came back smiling. It was a wonderful experience.

Two of these photos are things that we saw while visiting the 7 shops in the north Georgia mountains. On the other is our group picture taken as we left a shop after one of our group got the hourly door prize. A blessed group... LHQG
